The Benefits of Concealed Radar Detectors

A concealed remote radar detector installation, although more expensive, has many outstanding benefits compared to dash or windshield mounted radar detector units. These benefits are so numerous that perhaps it is best to just simply list them:

-- Some states prohibit attaching anything to your vehicle's windshield, or only allow you to attach devices to just a couple of specific windshield areas which may be far less than ideal mounting locations for a windshield mounted radar detector.

-- Many vehicles feature athermic (heat absorbing) windshields. Athermic windshields greatly attenuate the transmission of radar, rendering windshield mounted radar detectors and in-car GPS satellite navigation systems all but useless. Usually only one non-athermic spot (normally located behind the rear view mirror) is provided for mounting electronic transponder units which are used for automatically paid access to toll roads. Needless to say, mounting a radar detector behind your vehicle's rear view mirror is not a viable option.

-- The latest remote installed radar detector models offered by Bel and Escort such as the Bel STi-R Remote are significantly more sensitive to K and Ka band police radar guns. This was a design imperative since these remote installed radar antennas are usually located much lower behind the either the vehicle's front grille or behind or under the vehicle's front bumper. What is interesting is that Bel and Escort have boosted the radar sensitivities for their latest remote installed radar detector models so much that, amazingly, these installed remote models actually perform better than their similar windshield mounted counterparts!

-- A concealed radar detector installation is very inconspicuous and usually goes completely unnoticed by law enforcement officers. This is of great benefit if you drive through states and territories where radar detector use is illegal. Not only that, Bel's new STi-R and Escort's new 9500ci remote installed radar detectors are completely undetectable by all radar detector detector (RDD) units used by law enforcement. This, along with the totally concealed remote radar detector installation, provides huge peace of mind for drivers who live in areas where radar detector use is illegal.

-- A concealed radar detector installation doesn't advertise to other nearby drivers that you are using a radar detector. Few things are more annoying to radar detector users than having other drivers tailgate their car simply because they are using a radar detector.

-- A concealed remote radar detector installation is also beneficial even if you use the radar detector in states where radar detectors are legal to use. Why? Because some police officers who hate radar detectors, rather than merely writing you a warning citation, will instead write you a speeding ticket if they note that you are using a radar detector.

-- A concealed remote radar detector installation normally features a custom installation location for the radar detector's remote display module which displays the alerts for radar and laser. This remote display module is usually ideally installed on the vehicle's instrument cluster or is inconspicuously flush mounted on a dash panel in a location where it is readily visible by the vehicle's driver. Thus the radar detector installation has now become an integral part of the vehicle, and its displayed alerts are just as easily monitored by the driver along with the vehicle's speed, tachometer, and fuel gauges. The beauty of this type of display installation is that only the vehicle's driver and passengers can see the displayed alerts.

-- A concealed remote radar detector installation usually goes completely unnoticed by thieves, and really is the only satisfactory solution if you live or work in a high theft area. Thieves always are on the lookout for a radar detector attached to the windshield, for the dual suction cup marks left on the windshield by the radar detector's windshield mounting bracket, or for the dangling coiled power cord which powers a conventional windshield mounted radar detector.

So, what are the cons of owning or using a remote installed radar detector system? Only one -- remote installed radar detectors are more expensive compared to windshield mounted radar detectors.
